LLLeashes LLC has merged with the nonprofit, MD Dogs Inc. Please visit MDdogs.org for free training resources and fully trained Diabetic Alert Dog availability.
LLLeashes LLC is a small business dedicated to providing Diabetic Alert Dogs to children with type 1 diabetes, as well as assisting those who are training their own Service Dogs through consultations. To learn more about these, please visit the tabs above.
As a child, Libby began her dog boarding business but quickly pivoted to focus on dog training. Owner, Libby Rockaway, trained over 50 puppies that were sent across North America, Brazil, and Dubai. The business then evolved further, focusing on Diabetic Alert Dog training.
LLLeashes Diabetic Alert Dogs (DADs) are trained to signal a diabetic that his or her blood sugar is out of range - either high or low. What is unique about LLLeashes Service Dogs is they are completely immersed in daily life and the dog's training can be tailored to the family and their environment. There are no runs or kennel facilities, the dogs are raised in a home environment and are raised and trained as a member of the family. The Service Dog attends every lecture, lab, club meeting, or outing with friends and the dogs are raised in city environments so they are prepared to handle anything!
These DADs are not cures, they aren't perfect, and they are a lot of work. But Libby has seen how each dog she places becomes one of the few positive aspects of diabetes. The dogs not only help the handler stay in range by alerting to lows and highs, but they also become a confidant and a best friend.
Libby's goal is to help families manage type 1 diabetes, one dog at a time. She plans to continue training DADs until technology surpasses the dogs' capabilities or until there is a cure, either of which cannot come fast enough!
