Above is a video by Kyle Schroeder about Libby's dog interest.

My name is Libby Rockaway and I am the owner of LLLeashes and founder of MD Dogs Inc. I have a BA in Cognitive Neuroscience, am a member of the Association of Professional Dog Trainers (APDT) as well as the International Association of Canine Professionals (IACP), and have attended over 10 conferences on detection dogs, DADs, or canine behaviour from a variety of organizations and individuals such as the AKC, PennVet Working Dog Center, APDT, and Debby Kay.
When I was 8 years old I began training my first dog and over the years my dogs and I competed in 4-H and AKC obedience and agility, and I became my county's Dog Club leader - teaching kids how to train their own dogs.
Since 2011, I have trained over 50 dogs, teaching them obedience commands and manners. These pups have been for clients across the U.S., Brazil, and Dubai. To see videos of some of these dogs after their training, see my YouTube channel: libbyrockaway.
In 2014, I began to write down the process I train the puppies with, which eventually I compiled into a book, Puppy Steps: Practical Training for Your New Best Friend. It is written for young adults, or for those who would like a straight forward guide to raising a well behaved puppy. It includes step-by-step photos, as well as illustrations of a Fido character to help demonstrate concepts.
While I enjoy general puppy training, the area of dog training that I'm most passionate is service dogs, specifically Diabetic Alert Dogs. In 2013, I began to train my first Diabetic Alert Dog, Sadie. She lived in my home and I taught her to alert to low and high blood sugars and the necessary public access skills to be a service dog. She was placed with an 8 year old with type 1 diabetes in October of 2014. Since then, I have continued to train Diabetic Alert Dogs, matching them with young people with type 1 diabetes.
In 2017, I founded MD Dogs Inc - a nonprofit dedicated to providing resources for those with type 1 diabetes to train their own Diabetic Alert Dogs. I began recording my methods for training Diabetic Alert Dogs, leading to a second book and a video series which are provided for free on the MD Dogs website - MDdogs.org
In 2019, I graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with a Bachelor's in Cognitive Science, concentrating in Cognitive Neuroscience. I am in the process of receiving a Master's of Science in Nonprofit Leadership at the University of Pennsylvania, as well as a Master's of Science in Animal Behaviour & Welfare from Queen's University Belfast. My hope is to combine all the fields I am passionate about - science, dog training, and nonprofits - in order to further the field of Medical Alert Dogs and improve the lives of those with type 1 diabetes.
